UPSC Syllabus 2024

UPSC Exam Pattern

This examination is conducted by UPSC in three stages, the first stage examination is prelims (multiple choice), the second stage is the main examination (descriptive) and the last stage is conducted by the interview.

IAS Prelims Exam Pattern

Talking about the UPSC Pre Syllabus, there are 2 exams under it. In which the first exam is General Studies and the second exam is CSAT and to reach the main examination, it is necessary to pass both these exams of the preliminary examination. Merit is made to pass the general studies exam, while it is necessary to get 33% marks in CSAT.

There is negative marking in both the exams and 1/3 marks are deducted if the wrong answer is given. With the help of the table given below, you can understand the UPSC Exam Pattern very well-

Below we have given detailed information about the syllabus of Union Public Service Commission;

General Studies

Under this examination, a total of three papers of General Studies have to be examined, in which questions are mainly asked from topics related to Indian Polity, Geography, History, Indian Economy, Science and Technology, Environment and Ecology, International Relations and Current Affairs and the fourth paper is of Ethics, in which the candidate is asked about the work of IAS and its duties, Questions are asked from honesty, justice and other social points.

CSAT

In the second paper of the preliminary examination, questions like reasoning and analytical, reading comprehension, decision making, etc. are asked of the candidate.

UPSC IAS Mains Exam Pattern and UPSC Hindi Medium Syllabus

After successfully clearing the prelims, the candidates have to take the main exam which is descriptive. There are mainly 9 papers in it and only 7 papers are included while making the merit. Two examinations (02 papers in 300 full marks, it is necessary to get at least 25% marks to qualify it) and the remaining 7 papers are of General Studies and Essay.

Paper A is not mandatory for candidates from the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim. The Indian language paper can choose any language included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

Personal Interview (Full Marks- 275 marks)

Candidates who qualify the main examination are called for an interview and have to answer questions from the senior selectors of the UPSC board. The final merit and rank are made by adding the marks of the main exam and interview (1750+275= 2025).
